Riot - Jamie Begley Speculative fiction is a genre I don't read nearly as much now as I did during my early twenties, so I'm far from an expert on the genre. That being said, Karena Malena's SOUND OF SILENCE does a nice job of establishing a universe and introducing characters for what is sure to be a much longer and involved tale. The prose is well-written and smooth.
Although a bit of deus ex machina sets events in motion, the not-too-distant world presented wheres the government monitors all communications seems plausible enough - both frightening and compelling.
Recommended for fans of speculative fiction. I look forward to seeing how the tale progresses in future installments.
